Questions

Where does the family name go?

Front of the envelope, under the blessing: "The Sharma Family" or "Sharma Parivar". At weddings the receiving family opens hundreds of envelopes and notes each name and amount in a register, so a clear printed name matters more than the message.

Should I write the amount on the envelope?

Not on the front. If the family keeps a register, a small note inside with your name and the amount ("₹1,101 - Sharma Parivar") helps them. Not sure how much to give? Use our free shagun amount calculator.

English or Hindi?

Either is fine. Short Hindi blessings (Shubh Vivah, Shubh Deepavali, Aashirwad sahit) read well to elders; English suits friends and colleagues.

How long should the message be?

One line. The envelope is small and the name is what the family needs to read.
